Épique
Welcome:
Welcome to Vie de Château, an advanced/literate medieval human roleplay. The overarching plot is a battle between two kingdoms, those of Géant (of the North) and Épique (of the South). These kingdoms are the two separate halves of the island of Île which resides quite near Europe. Because of their remote locations, each kingdom is extremely small (as a Lord's "kingdom" from approximately the same time would've been) and contains only a single castle and one town. The infrastructure of each castle and town is very different from the other, in size and layout, but both are equally prosperous and have a similar population. They began as allies, the kings planning to marry their children and become one great kingdom. But when Épique's princess goes missing, it's king blames his neighbor. When war is waged, it will take a great amount of cunning and military precision for either side to win without plunging the entire island into an economic depression and doom them all.

The Kingdom of Gèant
The Kingdom of Gèant is a small country, even by its own standards. It is home to roughly 250,000 people, living evenly dispersed throughout its landscape. The country is divided into three different Earldoms, sections of the country ruled by and Earl, who answers directly to the king. They are: Falècion, Royaume-Uni en Montagne, And La Scission. They will be given their own board, and a single town will be described in each.
Topography
The land is very rough and mountainous. Along the boarder with Epique, there is a mountain range, small by the worlds standards, but the largest in the Isle. It provides a natural barrier for the countries. In the far south east, there is some of the only fertile farm-land in the country, making it a priority to defend. The rest of the country is a mixture of Semi-desert and small mountains, with many Iron Mines and mills dotting the landscape.
Economic Overview
The Kingdom of Gèant’s major commodity is iron ore, found in the mountains of Royaume-Uni en Montegne. This alone brings them much wealth each year, and they have some of the most talented smiths in the entire Isle. They have various Artisans living in the towns and cities, but the most widely respected people are the Smiths, who can, due to the abundance of Iron ore, make beautiful jewelry out of the seemingly ugly metal. Farmland is hard to come by in Gèant, for much of the land is too rocky, or too moist to grow fertile crops. As such, they rely heavily on importation to feed their citizens. This alone, is the greatest weakness of the Kingdom of Gèant.
Political Overview
Gèant is a Kingdom, and as such, it’s ruler is a king and the royal family. But even a county as small as this one is too large for one single man to rule, and so the country has been divided up into three different Earldoms, ruled by three different men. They answer directly to the king, and pay taxes to him that they collect from their citizens. There is a mild amount of corruption of the government, but that is to be expected of any political system. The King doesn’t control the Army, but he controls the Generals, and they do as he bids.
Military Overview
The standing army of Gèant is 3,000 soldiers strong, with a contingent of 500 Archers and 700 Cavalry. It is controlled, extensively, by the Generals, whom each have specific areas that they are skilled in. Because of it’s small size, the men are worked and trained well, creating a deep sense of unity. They are well trained, and they are very organized. They fight well as a unit, and as such have been able to win against armies three times their size. They also have a militia unit of part-time soldiers, called upon in times of war. This raises the total men in the Army to 5,000, by adding 800 semi-trained Commoners to the ranks of the army.
Winter is approaching, and though during the day highs of 70 degrees are common, nightly temperatures plummet to nearly freezing. Frost coats the early-morning earth, and it is not a very prosperous time. Though disease is rare due to the high standards of sanitation, any illness that exists is rampant during this time. Armies are usually dormant and villagers tend to congregate and participate in tasks such as the making of fabric and the tanning of hides.
